WORK IN PROGRESS
Alleyways and Staircases
This new series is inspired by my recent trip to Guanajuato, Mexico, a city renowned for its intricate network of alleyways and steep staircases. Drawing from the city's rich textures and layered architecture, I’ve incorporated cut-out brown paper and various paper layers to mimic its depth and complexity. Each piece is brought to life with the bold contrast of black ink, capturing the spirit of Guanajuato’s urban landscape and the interplay of light and shadow throughout its narrow streets.
Mayan line path
This is the first in a new series inspired by the art of the ancient Mayans, particularly their use of single, continuous lines in wall drawings. This initial piece features a bold representation of a Mayan head, intricately drawn with black ink on a paper-covered canvas. Measuring 42”x62”, it sets the tone for the rest of the series, which will explore the simplicity and elegance of Mayan line work, blending ancient artistic traditions with a modern, minimalist approach.
Fragments of Transfers (MyGration)
In this series, I use photography and found imagery to explore memory, identity, and connection through the lens of my experience as an immigrant. By layering Xerox transfers onto canvas, the work reflects the fragmented and evolving nature of belonging—where personal history, place, and cultural memory intersect. The transferred images appear partially revealed and obscured, echoing the way memories shift over time and how identity is continuously reconstructed through movement, displacement, and connection. Each piece becomes a visual archive that navigates the tension between permanence and impermanence, familiarity and distance.
